Truffle popcorn is here…and it is sooo good http://onthegourmet.com/blog/2009/06/06/truffle-popcorn-is-hereand-it-is-sooo-good/ http://onthegourmet.com/blog/2009/06/06/truffle-popcorn-is-hereand-it-is-sooo-good/#comments Sat, 06 Jun 2009 04:02:40 +0000 Administrator http://onthegourmet.com/blog/?p=229 We are excited to offer another new product! This is definitely not chocolate. This air-popped popcorn is made from the finest white corn and sprinkled with white truffles and Black Perigord Truffles, the delicious and expensive French Truffle.

Christened by Brillat Savarin as the “black diamond of the kitchen,” truffles are an elite and elusive epicurean delight, retailing for up to $1500 a lb! Why are these mushrooms so expensive you probably want to know, and especially if you don’t even care for mushrooms. Here’s a brief look into the history of this elusive and delectable epicurean delight.

Reports of Truffle collections date back as early as 4,000 years ago. The history of these extravagant tubers, inducers of romance and a top measure of haute cuisine, began when the ancients attributed them with magical power. According to Plutarch’s legend, it was believed that truffles were created by the gods, born as lightning bolts struck the earth. They grow underground at the roots of trees and are worshiped by chefs and epicureans around the world.

So treat yourself to this mouth watering aphrodisiac called the truffle – one of the most expensive foods in the world.

Stop by On the Gourmet this weekend to taste this delicious treat. Our 3 oz bag is only $10.00. Affordable luxury!

We look forward to seeing you On the Gourmet!

Eat Well,

Sara, Chris, & Libby
